Kaninë castle dates back to the 4th century BC and was a stronghold of Albanian independence: the Venetian and Ottoman walls can be visited freely and the guide tells you the place's story while you look at the bay from above.

The route combines secondary asphalt and easy dirt tracks, with a few demanding but never technical climbs. On the way back, a stop at a village spot for welcome raki (optional!) and mountain cheese.
