Activities & tours in Vlorë, Albania

Kayak in Vlorë: among the lagoon's flamingos and along the Karaburun cliffs

Two completely different environments: the flamingos' saltwater lagoon and the marine park's open sea

Direct booking with local operators: no hidden fees, free cancellation up to 48h before.

A few minutes from Vlorë lies one of Albania's best-kept natural secrets: the Narta Lagoon, inside the Vjosa-Narta protected area, where thousands of pink flamingos and Dalmatian pelicans stop during migration. The lagoon kayak tour (4-4.5 hours, groups of max 9 people) sets off early in the morning and includes the Byzantine monastery of Zvërnec, on an islet linked by a wooden bridge.

The other face of kayaking in Vlorë is the sea: the Karaburun coast, reachable only by water, with caves and coves where nobody else goes. Sea tours depart from the Radhimë-Orikum bay with a guide, single or double kayaks, and include snorkeling stops.

Kayaking here is still a pioneering activity — no operator has a real website and demand grows every year — so booking ahead is the only way to be sure of a spot and a guide. Season: lagoon almost all year (migrations are the best show), sea from May to October.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need kayaking experience?

No: the lagoon is flat and calm, perfect for beginners. For the Karaburun sea tour a minimum fitness is needed, but the guide adapts the pace to the group.

When can you see the flamingos?

All year round, but the best periods are the spring and autumn migrations (April-May and September-November), when thousands are counted.

Can children join?

In the lagoon yes, from 6 years in a double kayak with a parent. The sea tour is recommended from 12 years.

What does the price include?

Kayak, paddle, life jacket, guide and usually the transfer from Vlorë centre. Some tours include snacks and binoculars for birdwatching.
